The Phubby Story

Until recently, conveniently carrying a cell phone was this millennium’s greatest challenge. Prior generations never encountered the phumble (phone fumble) - a desperate search in a pocket, handbag or briefcase for a ringing electronic device. The Phubby™ phone cubby conclusively eliminates the phumble by merging new-age fabrics and the anatomical wonders of a kangaroo.

Well maybe not a biblical challenge but certainly during the most recent millennium, we’ve all been inconvenienced when carrying our phone. For sure, the belt clip is far too geeky. The phumble (phone fumble) is an embarrassingly clumsy act. Oh yeah! Maybe the most annoying experience is the need to keep a firm grip on your phone, when it’s set on “vibrate mode”, so you don’t miss an (important?) inbound call.

Heidi Kleinman

Heidi Kleinman

Heidi has been a design professional and the President of her architectural firm for nearly thirty years.  Her creations continue to dazzle clients with their style, creativity and focus on sustainability.  But after working primarily with wood, concrete and steel while resisting ongoing pressures to specify vinyl siding (a constant hazard for a New Jersey architect) no one would have suspected that her finest design creation would be conceived with Spandex.  Only Heidi could have visualized the fabric folds, re-folds, twists and turns that created Phubby™ the wrist cubby.  The sewing machine has partly replaced CAD software as the focal point for her most creative inspirations.

Ted Ross

Ted Ross

Prior to co-founding South Mill Design,
Ted’s previous design efforts were primarily focused on attempting to match his large inventory of neckties to a business suit.  Throughout the thirty years working in an office, he did not impress his co-workers with his fashion accessorizing.  This bio probably should describe Ted’s career including his recent four year stint with a hedge fund, as founder of a real estate specialty finance company, president of a computer software firm or as director with a global agricultural company.  But they are totally irrelevant and admittedly trivial when compared to his role in helping create the breakthrough digital communications device conveyance technology – Phubby™ the wrist cubby.  Ted has destroyed all his neckties and spends his time preaching the wonders of the most practical and fashionable phone accessory in the universe.

The South Mill Design Solution

There is a solution to this greatest of all hardships.  Phubby™ the wrist cubby merges new age fabrics and the design features of a marsupial. Just slip your hand through the Phubby ™ and it is ready to act as a cubby for your phone. Now one can slide their phone in and out of the concealed pouch quicker then the onset of a second ring tone. Finally the cell phone is only a cufflink away. This patent pending invention is going to transform digital communications in the same way tube socks revolutionized hosiery. But unlike the tube sock, kangaroos are wondering why evolution didn’t bless them with a Phubby™.
